Cruises to Hawaii from California: why no 7-day trip leaves Los Angeles
No 7-night cruise to Hawaii leaves Los Angeles or Long Beach, because the islands are more than 2,100 nautical miles away. Round trips on this schedule last 14 to 17 nights, on Carnival from Long Beach and on Princess and Celebrity from San Pedro. Fares started at $1,074 per person on 2 November 2026.

No 7-night cruise to Hawaii leaves Los Angeles or Long Beach. The shortest trip that reaches the islands from here lasts 14 nights, and 8 of those days are at sea. The round trips on this schedule run up to 17 nights.
The schedule has 30 Hawaii sailings, from 8 November 2026 to 22 October 2028. On 2 November 2026 fares ran from $1,074 to $2,642 per person, for the cheapest cabin listed with taxes and port fees included. The table at the end of this guide lists every one.
Are there 7 day cruises to Hawaii from California?
No, not from Los Angeles or Long Beach. We checked every sailing on this schedule. The 154 sailings of 7 nights here go to Mexico or along the Pacific Coast, and none reaches Hawaii.
The reason is distance. NOAA's table of U.S. port distances gives these figures in nautical miles, and a nautical mile is about 1.15 ordinary miles.
| From | To Hilo | To Honolulu |
|---|---|---|
| Los Angeles | 2,140 | 2,233 |
| Long Beach | 2,143 | 2,236 |
| San Francisco | 2,019 | 2,091 |
| San Diego | 2,175 | 2,278 |
Hilo is the closest Hawaii port in NOAA's table. A 7-night round trip from Los Angeles to Hilo and back is 4,280 nautical miles in 168 hours, which works out at about 25.5 knots, day and night, with no time on the islands. That sum is ours. The itineraries on sale show what ships really do, which is 4 or 5 days at sea in each direction.
San Francisco is only about 120 nautical miles closer to Hilo, so the answer does not change elsewhere in California. Princess says its round trips from Los Angeles or San Francisco usually span 16 days or longer.
What Hawaii cruises leave from Los Angeles and Long Beach?
Three lines sail round trips from here, on 14 to 17 nights. Carnival is the shortest and leaves from Long Beach, and Princess has the most sailings from San Pedro.
| Carnival | Princess | Celebrity | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Length | 14 nights | 16 nights | 16 or 17 nights |
| Port | Long Beach | San Pedro | San Pedro |
| Ships | Carnival Legend, Carnival Radiance, Carnival Spirit | Emerald Princess, Crown Princess | Celebrity Equinox |
| Days at sea | 8 | 10 | 9 or 10 |
| Hawaii ports | 4 | 4 | 3, with overnights |
| Hours in Hawaii ports, all stops | About 40 | 43 to 47 on most | 69 to 78 |
| Foreign stop | Ensenada | Ensenada | Ensenada |
Celebrity Equinox sails the 17-night in April 2028 and the 16-night in October 2028. The April trip also calls at San Francisco on the way out.
What can you do if you only have a week for Hawaii?
You have two realistic choices, and neither is a cruise to Hawaii from California. You can fly to Honolulu and sail from there, or stay on a 7-night cruise from here to Mexico.
Norwegian says Pride of America sails year-round from Honolulu and visits four Hawaiian islands and five ports in seven days. It calls the ship the only U.S.-flagged cruise ship in Hawaii. This site lists only departures from Los Angeles and Long Beach, so that ship is not on this schedule.
From here, the 132 sailings of 7 nights to the Mexican Riviera started at $299 per person on 2 November 2026. Our Mexico guide compares them.
How many sea days are on a Hawaii cruise from Los Angeles?
Expect 4 or 5 days at sea each way, so 8 days in all on Carnival and 10 on Princess. Port days are few. A two-week trip usually gives you four days in Hawaii, plus Ensenada. This is the pattern in the itineraries on sale, and one sailing can differ.
- Carnival, 14 nights. Days 2 to 5 at sea, four Hawaii ports on days 6 to 9, days 10 to 13 at sea, Ensenada on day 14, and Long Beach on the morning of day 15.
- Princess, 16 nights. Days 2 to 6 at sea, four Hawaii ports on days 7 to 10, days 11 to 15 at sea, Ensenada on day 16, and San Pedro on the morning of day 17.
- Celebrity, 16 nights, October 2028. Days 2 to 5 at sea, then overnights at Honolulu and Kailua, Hilo on day 10, days 11 to 15 at sea, and Ensenada on day 16.
Honolulu is on every sailing. Most also call at Hilo and Kauai, and many at Kahului on Maui or Kona. The order changes from date to date, so read the ports on the row. Most Princess calls at Honolulu run from 7am to 11pm, and most Carnival calls end at 10pm, which leaves an evening ashore.
Why do Hawaii cruises from Los Angeles stop in Ensenada?
Because of the Passenger Vessel Services Act. The law, 46 U.S.C. 55103, bars a vessel from carrying passengers between U.S. ports, directly or through a foreign port, unless it is wholly owned by U.S. citizens and holds a coastwise endorsement, or is exempt from documentation but would qualify for one.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection gives this example of a violation. A ship that is not coastwise-qualified takes passengers from Los Angeles to several Hawaiian Islands, lets them go ashore, and brings them back to Los Angeles.
The regulation, 19 CFR 4.80a, describes what changes that. For a voyage to U.S. ports and a nearby foreign port, the violation it lists is getting off at a U.S. port other than the one where you boarded. CBP names Ensenada as a nearby foreign port. Its matching example of a violation is a ship that sails from Los Angeles to Hawaii and Ensenada, then lets passengers off in San Diego.
Celebrity's Hawaii guide says most foreign-flagged cruise ships cannot carry guests solely between U.S. ports, and it says many Hawaii itineraries include a foreign call such as Ensenada.
Every Hawaii cruise on this schedule calls at Ensenada on the last full day before home. The length of the stop varies.
| Line | Time in Ensenada | Hours |
|---|---|---|
| Carnival | 3pm to 8pm | 5 |
| Princess, from September 2027 | 9am to 5pm | 8 |
| Princess, most earlier sailings | Noon to 5pm | 5 |
| Celebrity | 8am to 5pm | 9 |
Some Emerald Princess calls are shorter. The ship stays 4 hours on the sailing of 28 November 2026, and on 26 February 2027 it arrives at 5pm and stays 2.5 hours. The same rule means you cannot simply leave the ship in Honolulu, and our documents guide explains that.
Are there cruises from Long Beach to Hawaii?
Yes. Carnival's 14-night round trips leave from the Long Beach Cruise Terminal, with 13 on this schedule from 28 November 2026 to 22 October 2028. Carnival Radiance has the first, Carnival Legend sails them from October 2027 to March 2028, and Carnival Spirit takes over in October 2028.
Princess and Celebrity leave from San Pedro, a separate port, so check your terminal. On the official schedule, which runs to 31 December 2027, Princess uses the World Cruise Center on most dates. Emerald Princess on 26 February 2027 and Crown Princess on 27 September 2027 use Berth 46 in the Outer Harbor. Berths for 2028 are not published yet.
When do Hawaii cruises leave Los Angeles?
They leave between September and April, and no Hawaii cruise on this schedule leaves from May to August. Princess says its Hawaii cruises sail from September through April. The busiest months here are October, November and January.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu treats October through April as Hawaii's wet season and May through September as the dry season, so most of these trips fall in the wet season. It also gives 1 June to 30 November as the hurricane season, which covers the fall sailings. Our season guide shows what else sails in those months.
How much is a Hawaii cruise from Los Angeles?
On 2 November 2026 a 14-night cruise started at $1,287 per person and a 16-night cruise at $1,074. Those are the lowest fares that day for the cheapest cabin listed, with taxes and port fees included, and they change often.
| Length | Lowest fare on 2 November 2026 | Lowest per night |
|---|---|---|
| 14 nights | $1,287 | $92 |
| 16 nights | $1,074 | $67 |
| 17 nights | $1,716 | $101 |
These are round trips, so you need no flight if you live near the port. Add parking for the full length of the trip if you drive, because two weeks at a port lot adds up.
Can you see Hawaii on a longer cruise from Los Angeles?
Yes, on a one-way voyage that carries on across the Pacific. Our South Pacific page lists trips from 17 nights that stop in Hawaii and then sail to Tahiti, New Zealand or Australia. Most need a flight home, and fares started at $2,199 per person on 2 November 2026.
